City Read: Twisted London

In April, I ran around London running comics workshops for kids aged 8 – 12 on the theme of Victorian London, as part of the City Read. I went to many previous unexplored locations, even in South London(!) where we North Londoners never tread, met loads of imaginative and funny kids, several cool librarians, and one lady Mayor. The idea of the workshops was for the children to create funny comic strips based on historical facts about Dickens’ London. Naturally, most of these involved poo, death, crime and other savoury topics! For the less grotesquely-minded I had also unearthed some interesting anecdotes about Victorian advertising techniques and the postal service.

The strip below was my example of a Twisted London comic… and yes, it’s all TRUE.
